What the Plantation office handles

Accounting, bookkeeping, and monthly reporting

Current books, reconciled accounts, and reporting a business owner can act on, whether the company has been running for twenty years or opened last quarter. See accounting and bookkeeping.

Payroll and Florida employer compliance

Payroll processing with Florida reemployment tax, new hire reporting, and federal deposits and filings kept current, plus multi-state registrations for employers whose staff work from other states. See payroll services.

Federal tax planning and preparation

With no Florida personal income tax, the planning conversation moves to federal questions: entity structure, owner compensation, depreciation and fixed assets, retirement plan design, and the timing of income and deductions. See tax planning and preparation.

Florida sales tax and business filings

Sales and use tax registration, collection, and returns, including the Broward County discretionary surtax, plus tangible personal property returns and the annual report. See Florida sales tax registration.

Relocation from New York and other high-tax states

Part-year returns, domicile documentation, and the New York-source income that follows people south. The firm works both ends of this move. See moving from New York to Florida.

IRS representation and international reporting

Notices, examinations, collection matters, and unfiled returns, along with foreign account and foreign-owned entity reporting, which is common in a market with this much international ownership. See tax problem resolution and international tax services.

State and county context

The Florida tax picture, in brief

No personal income tax, but not no tax

Florida imposes no individual income tax, which is the headline. What remains still needs attention: corporate income tax on C corporations, sales and use tax, tangible personal property tax, reemployment tax, and documentary stamp tax on deeds and certain notes.

Sales tax with a Broward County surtax on top

Florida’s general sales tax rate is 6 percent, and counties add a discretionary sales surtax. Broward County adds 1 percent, so most taxable sales in Plantation, Fort Lauderdale, and the rest of the county run at 7 percent. Surtax rules differ from the state rate on some transactions, and rates vary by county for deliveries elsewhere in Florida.

Business assets are taxed by the county

Florida counties assess tangible personal property tax on business furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The return goes to the county property appraiser and is due April 1. A statutory exemption covers smaller filers, but an initial return is generally required to claim it.

The annual report has a hard deadline

Corporations, LLCs, and limited partnerships file an annual report with the Florida Division of Corporations by May 1. Filing late carries a $400 penalty that the state does not waive, and failing to file at all leads to administrative dissolution.

Homestead, Save Our Homes, and portability

For Florida residents, the homestead exemption reduces assessed value and the Save Our Homes cap limits how fast assessments rise. Portability lets an established benefit move with you to a new Florida home. These matter to the relocation conversation as much as income tax does.

Rates, thresholds, and surtaxes change. Confirm current figures with the Florida Department of Revenue and the Broward County Property Appraiser, or ask the firm.

Questions

Plantation office questions

Where is the Plantation office?

The office is at 135 NW 100th Ave, Plantation, FL 33324, just off West Broward Boulevard at NW 100th Avenue, in central Broward County. Visits are by appointment.

Do you serve Fort Lauderdale and the rest of Broward County?

Yes. Plantation sits in the middle of the county, roughly fifteen minutes from downtown Fort Lauderdale on Broward Boulevard, and the office serves Fort Lauderdale, Sunrise, Davie, Weston, Coral Springs, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood, Tamarac, Lauderhill, Miramar, and Parkland, along with Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties.

Florida has no income tax. What is there to plan for?

Plenty. Florida has no personal income tax, but it does have corporate income tax on C corporations, sales and use tax with a county surtax on top, tangible personal property tax on business assets, reemployment tax on wages, and an annual report requirement with a late fee that cannot be waived. Federal tax planning does not go away either, and for anyone who moved here from a high-tax state, the old state usually has a view about whether the move was real.

I just moved to Florida from New York. Can you handle both sides?

Yes, and that is one of the reasons the firm keeps offices in both states. A move year usually means a part-year New York return, a change-of-domicile record that will hold up if it is examined, and attention to income that stays New York-source after the move. See moving from New York to Florida.

Can I send documents to the Plantation office?

Send documents through the secure client portal rather than by mail or email. Physical correspondence goes to the firm’s mailing address at 8958 W State Rd 84, PMB #314, Davie, FL 33324, not to the office.
